Renewing Your Car Insurance in Spain
I’ve recently had my annual quote in to renew the insurance premium on my car in Spain.
As research for this website – as well as saving some of my hard earned Euros, I decided to put different Spanish insurance brokers and insurance companies to the test to see if I could substantially reduce my premium.
To understand everything you need to know about car insurance in Spain read our Car Insurance in Spain Guide.
Reading this article on how to reduce and find the best quote for car insurance in Spain could help you when the time comes for your own car insurance renewal. Do make sure you renew your car insurance Spain as the police in Spain have many roadblocks set up and so the possibility of you being stopped and not having valid insurance is very high in Spain – and make sure you have valid road tax too. To reduce your premiums read our helpful article on how to get cheap car insurance Spain.
Here is what I have discovered so far:
My car is a Renault Scenic bought new in 2000. It’s value now is low, I would say 3,000 Euros. Despite this I will look for fully comprehensive insurance as cars seem very expensive to buy in Spain so it seems you have to be spending at least 5,000 Euros to get a half-decent car.
My car has been converted from British license plates to Spanish.
My current policy is with Knight Insurance Brokers. Our local town has an office and the ladies who work there are fluent in English, Spanish and German so communication is easy if there are any issues. This did prove to be invaluable when I had an accident in my other car. I just went in and they guided me through the whole process.
So I like the service from Knight and it is proven. Nevertheless I do want to get a reasonable quote and for them not to take me for granted. I have been quoted 462 Euros. This is for fully comp with an excess of 180 Euros. This also includes breakdown cover which I have had to use twice and it works very well.
Just to point out that Knight are brokers – the documentation of the policy shows that I am insured through Spanish Insurance Solutions S.L. who are a Lloyds of London coverholder.
I then put in an email to Knight Insurance and asked if there was any way we could reduce the premium. It turns out just for asking that question we can get an even better and cheaper rate of 414 Euros without any changes in the policy.
So far so good. I will also be checking out some other companies and publishing the results here so do come back every so often.
